Kidman Way Bridge Over Benerembah Channel Gets Essential Maintenance
Work has started on Kidman Way Bridge over Benerembah Channel to ensure it is safe for road users until a new bridge is organised.
Essential work to strengthen the Kidman Way bridge over Benerembah Channel is now being undertaken by Transport for NSW.
A spokesperson for Transport for NSW said the work included installing steel support beams.
“Transport is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users,” the spokesperson said.
“This maintenance work will ensure the bridge continues to service the community while we plan for a replacement bridge.”
Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton said the work was a result of community feedback.
“Transport for NSW have listened to feedback provided by the community and delivered the desired outcome,” Ms Dalton said.
“I’m pleased to see rural NSW infrastructure finally being recognised as crucial.”
There are also plans to upgrade the Kidman Way intersections with North Kooba Settlers Road, Pellizer Road, Waide Road and Marston Road to improve safety at the bridge at its approaches.
It was projected that work would commence late this year, but repairs started on Monday, June 26 and will continue weekdays until Friday, August 4, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place for the safety of motorists and workers, including traffic control, a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h and occasional single-lane closures to allow a crane to safely install support beams.
Repairs to the current bridge will allow it to continue being used when construction on the new, wider bridge gets underway on a new alignment.
Motorists are advised to allow an extra five minutes of travel time for their journey.
The full project from start to finish is expected to take 18 months.
Transport for NSW thanked motorists for their patience during this time. Download the Live Traffic NSW app, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701 for the latest traffic updates.
