Kookora Street/Walla Avenue Roundabout Construction Update
Work at the Kookora Street-Walla Avenue roundabout construction continues.
Construction on the Griffith City Council’s roundabout project at the intersection of Koorora Street and Walla Avenue, designed to enhance safety advances.
With $1 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, the project includes a single-lane roundabout, medians, updated line marking, improved lighting, and signage.
Initial progress included unexpected upgrades to the water main beneath the roundabout, successfully completed to support the infrastructure.
Council adjusted the project delivery timeline to complete asphalt works with available resources.
It is anticipated the project will be completed by the end of January, 2025.
Concrete contractors have been appointed, and preparations are underway for the kerb, gutter and concrete annulus, along with drainage work that remains on schedule.
The intersection will remain closed during the construction period, affecting Walla Avenue (from Benerembah Street to Yarrabee Street) and Kookora Street (from Griffin Avenue to Murrumbidgee Avenue) until project completion.
Detours and signage remain in place to direct traffic along alternative routes, with access limited to local residents only.
