Meals on Wheels Calls For Help
Meals on Wheels and Hampers of Hope need help to keep up with the increased need for basic food items for financially disadvantaged residents.
The increased cost of living has seen more people needing help from non-profit organisations like Meals on Wheels and Hampers from Hope.
Senior Co-ordinator Tennille Valensisi said the award-winning Hampers for Hope program rescued 3000kg of food each week and redistributed it to financially disadvantaged members of the local community.
“We are seeing an increasing number of vulnerable Australians in need, and our philosophy is that they should never be refused a meal just because they are financially disadvantaged,” Ms Valensisi said.
“We send out over 100 hampers a day full of fruit, vegetables, bread and pantry items, all free of charge.
“Your donation will help us to purchase shelf life items, meat and toiletries to add to these hampers.
“By giving regularly, you are helping us to sustain our vital services well into the future and supporting those who need us most.”
Meals on Wheels has had a place in the hearts and homes of Australians for over 60 years, helpinig the frail, older people and younger people with disabilities and their carers to maintain their independence at home, where they are often happiest.
“A friendly smile, a chat, a meal and knowing somebody will drop by to say hello changes the lives of many Australians, and it’s not just the clients who value this contact,” Ms Valensisi said.
“Ask any of the 320 volunteers in Griffith alone and they will tell you reaching out and making a difference in somebody else’s day, makes their day.”
