MIA District RFS Will Conduct Hazard Reduction Burn On Scenic Hill
MIA District RFS will carry out a hazard reduction burn on Scenie Hill tomorrow, Saturday, November 2.
MIA District RFS will conduct a planned hazard reduction burn on Scenic Hill tomorrow, Saturday, November 2 beginning at 1:30 pm, weather permitting.
The hazard burn, west of Remembrance Drive, is a critical measure in reducing bushfire risks and enhancing community safety for the upcoming summer season.
It aims to reduce flammable vegetation, including dry grasses and accumulated fuel on a 50ha portion of Scenic Hill, to help protect local properties, public assets and natural areas.
Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed during the burn and to bring pets indoors to minimise exposure to smoke.
Drivers should be careful, particularly when passing through or near Scenic Hill due to the possible reduction in visibility.
MIA District Operational Officer Justin MacKellar said this burn had been meticulously planned, with all necessary safety measures and protocols in place to ensure a controlled and effective operation.
“When planning our burn, we found the window for a successful HR was rapidly decreasing, and with the current events around the city we found this weekend to be our best option,” Officer MacKellar said.
“Residents can expect smoke to be produced for a few days whilst crews patrol the fireground until at least Monday.”
The RFS aims to conduct hazard reduction burns safely and reduce the impact on the community and environment.
