The Director Public Health Unit, Alison Nikitas has issued a heatwave alert for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) through to Tuesday, December 17.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, particularly older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
People are urged to:
- Seek a place to keep cool, such as their home, a library, community centre or shopping centre;
- Close windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of their home; and
- If available, use fans or air conditions to keep cool.
Maximum forecast temperatures in the mid-thirties, and early forties across the District.
Monday is expected to peak with temperatures in the mid-forties in some areas.
Minimum temperatures in the mid-teens and mid-twenties are forecast for overnight.
