Murrumbidgee Folk Asked For Patience As Roads Repaired

Extensive reload repairs are going to take time and Murrumbidgee Council residents are asked for patience.
A spell of fine weather allowed Murrumbidgee Council’s road maintenance teams to get stuck in fixing all the damage to local roads.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Ruth McRae said it was a big job.
“It will take time so we’re asking everyone to be patient,” Mayor McRae said.
“We’ve still got some road closures throughout the area, but if you believe a road can be reopened, give us a call on 1300 676 243.”
The Council will join the growing group of councils and peak advocacy groups calling for an immediate funding boost by the Federal and State governments to address the $2.5 billion damage to roads across the State.
At last month’s Council meeting, Councillors unanimously voted to ramp up efforts to lobby both NSW and Federal governments to accelerate and significantly increase road funding.
Mayor McRae said the local road network, and roads right across the state, have disastrous damage.
“We are facing a task that is beyond the reasonable scope of any Local Government authority,” she said.
“We face an unprecedented disaster that requires an unprecedented response.”
Council is writing to the Prime Minister and NSW Premier calling for an increase in roads maintenance funding, as well as new funding for plant machinery and skilled workers to expedite road repairs.
