New Look For ANZAC Day
The ANZAC Day march will be very different to those conducted in past years due to Covid restrictions.
ANZAC Day services will look a little different to those we’ve had in the past due to Covid restrictions, but the Griffith RSL sub-branch is determined to hold formal events this year.
RSL’s Terry Walsh said one of the big disappointments is that there will not be the usual march down Banna Avenue. “Restrictions mean that the march has to be held within Memorial Park,” Mr Walsh said.
“It will involve only a small group of returned servicepersons and National servicemen inside the fenced area of Memorial Park. “We’ve had a couple of the schools contact us to say they’ll try to have a small group of students attend the services, but it won’t be the same.”
ANZAC Day is a day for us all to remember what our servicemen and women throughout the ages have done on our behalf; what they have sacrificed.
Each service will be conducted in Memorial Park with numbers limited by free ticket allocation.
One thousand tickets will be allocated to the dawn service which will commence at 5.30am.
Three entry points to the park will be opened at 5am. They are the post office corner in Banna Avenue, the centre of the park in Banna Avenue opposite the Cenotaph and at the rear of the courthouse on the service road behind the park.
The park must be cleared and the entry points closed following the dawn service and reopened at 9.30am for the main service which will commence at 11am.
Two thousand tickets will be allocated for the main service. If anyone wishes to attend both services, they must apply for tickets to both services.
Each person attending, regardless of age, requires a ticket. Limited seating is available, so people are encouraged to bring along their own chairs and arrive early.
The march will commence at 10.30am prior to the main service. While children are unable to march, they are encouraged to attend if possible.
- There is no breakfast at the Exies after the dawn service due to Covid restrictions.
- The pipes and drums band from Sydney has been cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
- There is no two-up at the Exies due to Covid.
- Lunch at the Exies is a limited ticketed lunch. Griffith RSL Sub-branch will issue limited tickets.
- The War Memorial Museum will be open immediately following the main service.
