No Fire Permits Issued Over Christmas
The issue of fire permits will be suspended between Saturday, December 21 and Sunday, January 5, 2025.
No fire permits will be issued in the following Local Government Areas (LGA) between Saturday, December 21 and Sunday, January 5, 2025 inclusive.
Carrathool;
Griffith;
Hay;
Leeton;
Murrumbidgee; and
Narrandera.
This temporary suspension coincides with the Christmas/New Year festive break, ensuring fire safety during a time of heightened risk and limited availability of personnel.
Summer conditions during late December and early January are often associated with elevated fire danger, making precautionary measures essential.
The NSW RFS has urged the community to prioritise fire safety during the festive season.
Unauthorised burns during this suspension will attract heavy penalties and could put lives, property and the environment at serious risk.
MIA District Operational Officer Justin Mackellar said that contained solid-fuel cooking fires, gas barbecues and barbecue smokers were allowed provided a Total Fire Ban was not declared.
“It is also a legal requirement to notify the RFS of all open fires via the RFS website - www.rfs.nsw.gov.au,” Operational Officer Mackellar said.
“Sixty seconds online can save you a $1100 fine.”
Visit the RFS website or contact your local MIA RFS office on 6966 7800 for guidance on fire permits and safety measures.
This festive period suspension is a reminder to stay vigilant and celebrate safely, ensuring the protection of our community and environment during the holiday season.
