NSW Government Fast-tracks Application Opening For $500M Road Repair Fund

Applications for the $500 million Regional and Local Roads Repair Program are now open.
Duty MLC for Wagga Wagg and Murray, Wes Fang said councils across the Riverina could now apply earlier for their share of $500 million in NSW Government funding for urgent road repairs.
“Ensuring our road network is in the best condition possible is a priority for us so that all road users can travel to and from their destinations safely,” Mr Fang said.
“The NSW Government understands the job councils have ahead to repair the road network after the severe weather events, and this funding will further build on the manpower and machinery assistance we have been providing them with from early last year.
“This funding is in addition to the $50 million regional councils have received to repair over 400,000 potholes across the state.
“This new cash injection will increase the scope for councils to regrade and rebuild sections of roads most impacted.
“Applications for the one-off payments open on 11 January 2023 and councils will see the money in their bank accounts within weeks.
“We have made the process simple and are fast-tracking it so councils can get on with the important job of repairing damage to the road network immediately.”
Applications opened on January 11, with a simplified process so councils could focus on important road repairs that will keep communities connected and safe.
“We understand the job councils have ahead of them and that’s why we have been helping with financial assistance since early last year and providing engineers, road workers and machinery,” Ms Cooke said.
“We have already provided $50 million to regional councils that will allow them to repair over 400,000 potholes on their roads but this funding will go further and see sections of roads regraded and rebuilt in the worst hit parts of the state.”
Transport for NSW will allocate the funds based on the total kilometres of roads managed in each local government area.
The funding split will provide $280 million for rural and regional councils and $220 million for councils in Greater Sydney and outer metropolitan areas.
This new money is on top of existing funding and assistance to councils including the Regional Roads Block Grant program and NSW Disaster Assistance Arrangements.
