Louise Miller has come across a lot of stories during her time at Griffith Camera House. As a woman in business, Ms Miller said that she was often in meetings predominately made up of men.

“You have to learn to be more assertive when offering your opinion on topics,” she said.

“I do believe women may have to fight a little harder to be recognised for their achievements within business, but opportunities are improving.

“As women in business, we’re often our own worst enemies because we don’t put ourselves forward for things that we feel we should, like pay rises or promotions.”

As a small business operator, Ms Miller is constantly looking for ways to improve and enhance her business and said that COVID had brought in opportunities for her rather than setbacks.

“We actually had one of the best years we’ve had,” she said.

“Because everyone was at home, they started looking at their family history and transferring photos, videos and movie reels to USB and DVD.”

Like many other businesses, Griffith Camera House reduced hours at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, but was able to adapt quickly, increasing their product line to include equipment to make Zoom sessions easier for people working and studying from home.

“You can’t always do what you’ve always done,” Ms Miller said.

“Being a small business operator means turnaround for change is quicker than larger, corporate organisations.”

The business has been helping residents of Griffith and surrounds with everything from developing and printing photos to selling photographic equipment and accessories for close to 50 years.

After working with her father for close to 20 years, Ms Miller purchased the business 17 years ago and has spent that time helping preserve history by scanning photos, negatives and slides.

“We also stock a large range of drones for enthusiasts and farmers to video and photograph their properties,” Ms Miller said.

“We can create lots of gift ideas for any type of celebration - a wine tumbler for Mum, a travel mug for Dad, a cushion for Nan and a jigsaw puzzle for the kids.
