Opening Night For The Wedding Siger Draws Near
This year’s community musical, The Wedding Singer, opens at Griffith Regional Theatre on Wednesday, September 13.
Things are hotting up around town, as the community musical, The Wedding Singer gets ready for opening night at Griffith Regional Theatre.
The cast and crew have been practising for months and, with Wednesday, September 13 just around the corner, Theatre Manager, Marg Andreazza said the show was looking and sounding amazing.
“We have the set ready to go, all locally sourced and built; the costumes are all sorted and, again, locally sourced and made,” Ms Andreazza said.
“Our technicians have been working on some great sound and lighting experiences for our audiences.
“This is definitely going to be the show that you don’t want to miss seeing.”
Director Katherine Sharpe, assistant director Romini Tappi, musical director Matt Segrave and choreographer Teagan Cirrilo head up a very talented production crew.
Cynthia Arel and Robyn Hutchinson collected and styled all of the costumes, while Peter Fordham and helpers built the set and John Matkovic, Mark Macedone and Theatre tech staff sorted the sound and lighting for the show.
Ms Andreazza said that stage managers Bonnie Owen and Mahendi Raval had everything sorted to ensure the show ran smoothly on the night.
“This team have all had extensive experience in their respective fields in music and theatre production and have brought such a high level of professionalism to the show,” she said.
“The audience will not believe they are watching an amateur production.” The cast has worked hard to learn and perfect all of the songs and dances, and the band has put in the hours to ensure the live music experience is fantastic for the audience.
Tickets are already on sale at the Box Office and while tickets are selling very well, there are still available tickets for the ten performances.
“Make sure you get in early to secure your tickets, once the show starts and people see how great it is, they will sell out - and you don’t want to miss out,” Ms Andreazza said.
The Wedding Singer is set in 1985, with rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart who just happens to be New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer and the life of the party - at least until his fiance leaves him at the alter.
After that dagger pierces his heart, Robbie just cannot deliver the usual love songs people expect from a wedding singer.
Things take an upward turn when he meets Julia, a winsome waitress, but she is engaged to a Wall Street shark.
Local stars Jesse Aviu and Lara Calabria will take you through the rocky relationship road as Robbie and Julia.
They are supported by a large cast of talented locals, including David Baxter, James Walsh, Gustavo Magalhaes Tercete, Valerie O’Meara, Helania Beltrame and Tenille Catanzariti in leading roles.
The show will run from Wednesday, September 13 to Saturday, September 23, including two matinee performances.
