Origin Australian Diamond Jo Weston Visits Jerilderie
Jerilderie FNC juniors are excited to receive a visit from Origin Australia Diamonds star Jo Weston this weekend.
Jerilderie Football Netball Club (FNC) will receive a visit from Origin Australia Diamonds star Jo Weston on Saturday, November 23 as part of Origin’s Diamond For A Day program.
Weston will take part in a clinic with the Jerilderie FNC’s next generation of netballers from 10 am, before helping to officially open Monash Park’s new netball change rooms at 1 pm alongside FNC President Carson Thomas and Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae OAM.
The experienced defender, who has 75 Test caps for Australia, will spend time on and off the court with Jerilderi’s junior talent - getting involved in a training session, before a talk and Q&A session.
Spokesperson for Jerilderie Football Netball Club (FNC) Eden Hercus said the club was looking forward to the visit.
“It’s an incredible experience to have someone of Jo’s calibre come out to our region,” Hercus said.
“It’s an opportunity a lot of our juniors, in a lifetime, wouldn’t otherwise get.
“We live four hours from Melbourne and seven hours from Sydney.
“Even if they wanted to travel to a clinic, many of our girls don’t have the capability to do so. “They love, live and breathe netball.
“This opportunity, given to us by Origen and Jo and Netball Australia will give the girls that extra drive.
“We’re incredibly fortunate that Origen is a sponsor of our netball club.
“They nominated us for this program.”
Origin’s Diamond For A Day program was designed to help bring good energy to local netball clubs and communities, with visits from past and present Diamonds players.
Hercus said some time ago, Murrumbidgee Council was successful in obtaining funding through the Stronger Country Community Fund to erect a multipurpose changeroom.
“It has a home-and-away change room, an umpires room, a first aid room, and a baby change area,” Hercus said.
“The visit tied in really well.
“The change room was nearly ready.”
Following the official opening, there will be a walk-through of the new facility and a sausage sizzle lunch.
