Thanks to an overwhelming response from residents, Griffith City Council can now make an informed decision about the mural for the Scenic Hill Water Reservoir.

Griffith City Council received over 1000 responses to its recent Scenic Hill Water Reservoir Mural theme survey that closed on Sunday, April 30.

Councillors will review the results over the coming weeks and decide on a preferred theme.

Once the decision has been made, Council will inform the community of the outcome.

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran thanked everyone who took the time to take the survey.

“This would have to be one of the most popular surveys we’ve put out,” Mayor Curran said.

“Thank you to everyone that provided input, Councillors now have plenty of information with which to make an informed decision.

“Perhaps some people won’t be happy with that decision but that is why it is important to complete these surveys, to be a part of the process.

“Once Councillors have determined the theme, the next step is for the artist, Heesco, to submit several mural sketches to Council based on the chosen theme.

“We anticipate that the Councillors will choose the final sketch in June 2023.”

Preparation work will start at the end of August 2023, with the mural painted during Spring and completed in time for this year’s Griffith SpringFest.

The four suggested themes were:

  • Water;
  • Multicultural;
  • Agriculture and manufacturing; and
  • Indigenous/First Nations.
