Point Riverina Classic Catch And Release Comp Celebrates 10 Years in 2023
The Darlington Point Riverina Classic Catch and Release Fishing Competition celebrates 10 years in February 2023.
The Darlington Point Riverina Classic Catch and Release Fishing Competition will reach a decade in 2023.
Since its inception, the event has raised over $170,000 for local charities and released over 65,000 fingerlings back into the Murrumbidgee River.
The competition has evolved into a 100 per cent photo-entry catch and release.
The organising committee for the competition has held DPI accreditation for Fishing Competitions for some years.
There are so many worthy charities that could use an injection of funds, but for the past four years, this competition has partnered with Rural Outreach Counselling (ROC) to be part of their work supporting rural families and their unique style of on-farm visits.
Originally, the organising committee simply donated money to ROC but felt they could do more.
The committee now actively promotes the not-for-profit organisation and the service they provide, and committee members have also engaged in ROC’s Mate Keeper program.
The group likes to promote sustainable fishing practices as well as good mental health within the community, and what to do if people need help.
Fishing has so many benefits.
Register for the 2023 event for a chance to win some great prizes.
All fishing must occur strictly between Gogelderie Weir and the Carrathool Bridge.
Thanks to the NSW Government Regional Reconnect Funding, next year’s event will also have a free barbecue and entertainment on Sunday.
