Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre celebrated its 21st birthday with a community pool party open day.

Celebrations began when doors opened at 10am, with a free sausage sizzle by Griffith Avanti Rotary and a DJ throughout the day until 4pm. Centre Manager Alan Anderson said the weather was just right for a great day in the pool.

“It was a great day and everyone had a good time,” said Centre Manager Alan Anderson.

There were 850 people who visited the centre on Sunday, with 400 people in the centre at 3pm.

There was a blessing of the pool by Father Andrew Grace, parish priest at Catholic Diocese of Wagga Wagga, and a presentation by councillors.

Mr Anderson said it was a coincidence that construction of the new pool coincided with the milestone birthday.

“When we were looking at dates it was a chance to introduce the new pool to the public and celebrate the centre as well,” Mr Anderson said.

“So far nothing but positive feedback for the new pool. People are loving being outside... the extra space in the busier months gives everyone a bit more space.”
