The Griffith Blacks travelled for a trial match to Dubbo last Saturday and put the boots on for the first time since late 2019. A total of 25 players made the trip.

Our new appointed club coach Chris McGregor and 1st XV manager James Shelton guided the team through seven 15-minute quarters.

After a five-hour bus trip, the Blacks found themselves at the Dubbo Rhinos Rugby Club training facility which was impressive in its own right.

Kick-off sounded and Lindsey Maiava created his own highlight reel - some impressive talent on display. Lotu Uoifalelahi had several destructive runs where he shoved both forwards and back aside.

Alexander Martin, Andries de Meyer and Veti-Jonathan Matta (VJ) also had strong performances.

During the many breaks, the coach and leadership players shared their concerns and also their appreciation for the structure the team displayed. Overall the players got over the Rhinos with plenty of line breaks and solid defence.

Congratulations also to our first cap players Nash, Jack, Peter, Nate, Zander and Reni. It was an 8 tries to 3 Griffith Blacks win.

Our attention now turns to our final trial match for men’s and women’s with Temora Rugby Union Club this Friday night.
