Robert is the director and driver for R &J Smith transport. He prides himself on his professional service, with 28 years experience in the transport and mechanical industries.
His dream was to own a transport business. In September 2019, Robert and his wife, Janelle took the plunge and bought their first truck, towing for another company.
In January 2020, Mr Smith bought their B-Double trailers, and earlier this year, then purchased a flat top trailer.
“We transport freight and machinery to and from Griffith to both Sydney and Melbourne and other destinations as required,” Robert said.
“We pride ourselves on delivering a first-class service at a competitive rate.” Both Robert and Janelle are from transport families, with Robert’s dad owning his own company in his younger years. Janelle’s parents and brother still run their livestock business in the area. Her mum is featured in the Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.
They both realise it’s a hard business, but passion for the industry runs deep in their veins.
As Robert says, “you have to give your dreams a go and see where they can take you.”
