Fully qualified and licensed, Richie Farrell has been plumbing for 25 years in Australia and abroad. “Having completed my apprenticeship in Ireland and working in Dublin and in Las Vegas, I moved to Australia in 2008 when the government were asking for skilled workers,” Mr Farrell said.

“I went straight into plumbing in Griffith and went back to TAFE for two years to gain the Australian qualifications as different countries have different codes and regulations.”

After becoming an Australian citizen in 2019, Mr Farrell has settled in Yenda with his wife, Amanda, and their four children.

He launched his plumbing business RAF Plumbing in September last year, amid the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic.

It is not uncommon for Mr Farrell to work seven days a week, but he still manages to coach his daughter’s soccer team and make time to go to Crossfit and play hockey. Despite what some might think, Mr Farrell does more than just unclog blocked toilets.

“Plumbing is more than toilets and crap,” he said.

“I also get to install gas and solar hot water systems and lay pipework for new builds. I do kitchen, bathroom and laundry maintenance and renovations, annual testing of RPZD and TMVs, and much more. As for the question, does the toilet flush clockwise in the southern hemisphere and anti clockwise in the northern hemisphere? The answer is actually quite scientific.”

“It can do, but it is not caused by the Coriolis effect. There are many factors such as the direction of the jets, symmetry of the drain or even leftover residue which will determine which direction the circulation occurs.”

You can contact Richie Farrell at RAF Plumbing by phoning 0427 206 710 for residential and commercial plumbing jobs in Griffith, Yenda and surrounding towns.
