Youth who will call Griffin Green home when the development is complete will have a spectacular space to call their own thanks to an injection of $1.479 million from the NSW Government’s ‘Our Region, Our Voice’ Regional Youth Investment Program.

Recipients of the funding, Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council will use the funds to develop the green space within Griffin Green.

The placemaking green space project is part of the Griffin Green Affordable Housing development and has been designed to improve the connectivity, engagement and participation of young people by having youth involved directly in the creation of the space.

CEO of Argyle Housing, Carolyn Doherty said a key feature of the project was for the youth of Griffith to learn essential life skills, improve wellbeing and engage in work-ready workshops.

The project will also focus on providing improved access to services such as mental health support and job training opportunities for young people aged 16 to 24 years.

In addition, Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council have designed an outdoor recreation area that will be located adjacent to their existing sit at Griffin Green Park.

The space will provide an opportunity for young people to engage in outdoor activities such as basketball.

“There will also be ongoing consultation in the engagement of local service providers in the delivery of programs and services to young people from the Community Hub,” Ms Doherty said.

Argyle Housing has consulted with the Griffith Local Aboriginal Land Council to co-design project components to ensure they are inclusive and representative of the local community.

Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council have a solid and ongoing commitment to the engagement and consultation with the Wiradjuri people in Griffith in the delivery of the Griffin Green Project, which includes the park precinct.

The ‘Our Region, Our Voice’ Regional Youth Investment Program is set to make a real difference for regional youth communities across NSW by giving them access to new resources that can help them reach their potential.

With this funding injection, it looks like Griffith’s youth community ware well on its way toward achieving great things.
