August will see Fred’s Big Run virtual online fitness challenge in aid of The Fred Hollows Foundation.

A whopping 90 per cent of people who are blind, don’t need to be.

The Fred Hollows Foundation has brought back its annual initiative, Fred’s Big Run, to raise much-needed funds to help restore sight for the needlessly blind.

This August, participants of the virtual online fitness challenge can opt to run or walk their preferred distance of 50km, 100km or 150km for the fundraiser.

Most of us don’t give our ability to see a moment’s thought, rarely considering how precious that ability is.

Fred’s Big Run was launched in 2020, with more than 7,300 people across 782 teams taking part from 25 countries around the world.

That first event raised over $1.78 million for The Fred Hollows Foundation, followed by over $2 million in 2021.

Fred’s Big Run is also a great way to increase daily steps for physical and mental health.

Participants can log and track their kilometres by downloading the Fred’s Big Run App, through their own personal fitness platform or manually through the Fred’s Bug Run website.

The Run is named after Australia’s most well-known eye doctor, Professor Fred Hollows, reminding participants of the legacy he left behind, working to ensure no person was needlessly blind or vision impaired.

The Fred Hollows Foundation works in more than 25 countries and has restored sight to over 3 million people worldwide.

Entry is free and participants can register solo or as part of a team.
