Hanwood Rural Fire Service responded to a number of call outs to deal with fires over the last week.

The past week has seen Hanwood RFS and other brigades called out to deal with a few fires, and while they handled everything with cool-headed precision, MIA District Operational Officer Justin MacKellar reminded the community to follow the rules currently in place regarding permits.

“For the most part, residents are abiding by the Fire Restrictions,” Operational Officer MacKellar said.

“This week there have been a few calls that Hanwood and other brigades have attended, including grass fires, car fires and also a pile burn that is believed not to have a permit.

“(For) most of which, investigations are still continuing.

Operational Officer MacKellar said that fire permits were available online at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or as a handwritten permit, as in the past.

The permit-holder must send a copy of the handwritten permit to the MIA office at mia.zone@rfs.nsw.gov.au as well as give 24 hours prior notice of burning via the RFS website.

“Permits span up to 21 days and are free to obtain,” Operational Officer MacKellar said.

Residents can contact the MIA office on 6966 7800 or drop in to the office at 200 Wakaden Street, Griffith if they have any questions.
