Rural landscape looking optimistic

Farming has always been an up-and-down industry where one producer is struggling another flourishing, then turning the tables with a change in weather conditions, etc. According to Mr James of JJ Farm Equipment, the rural outlook locally is pretty good at the moment.

“Everyone’s very optimistic,” Mr James said.

“The irrigation guys look pretty solid going forward and the dry area farmer is coming off the back of a fantastic year.”

COVID did not affect the business too much except to cause delays with product availability and supply, both from abroad and locally.

“Locally manufactured equipment has part components that come from other countries like Italy that affect locally manufactured equipment,” he said.

“For example, we ordered tractors in April/May last year and we received them in January this year.

“Usually anything we order in May is here in September.”

Justin James and his wife Nicola started their company JJ Farm Machinery in September 2017.

“I’ve been in the industry for around 20 years on both a national and local level.

“I was a representative for several companies during that time and I saw a lot of opportunity in Griffith and the surrounding districts.”

“There’s plenty of opportunity here due to the area’s diversification. We’re a small company and we focus on customer service.”
