Here’s a snapshot of Griffith.

Griffith City Library will host a book binding exhibition on Thursday, November 10 from 9:30 am to 2 pm. This event includes book restoration service (free book inspection), bookbinding tools and old books on display, free book care advice and bookbinding supplies.

Stop hiding your best photos on your hard drive, phone or in the cloud, create a beautiful photo book and get those precious memories out where you can share them with everyone else. Learn how to make your own photo book in a small group with the help of Camera House Griffith. All you need is a computer or tablet and access to your photos. The library can help with some computers if needed, so let staff know when booking in. The workshops will take place between 10:30 am and 12 noon on Monday, November 7, 14 and 21. Each participant will receive a 20-page, 11 x 8.5 inch photobook. Bookings can be made by phoning the library on 6962 8300. Morning tea is provided.

Griffith City Council urged residents to practice kindness when dealing with their staff during the recent heavy rainfall. Customer service officers have been fielding in excess of 200 calls each day and, while they understand that emotions run high and people are stressed, abusive calls are never acceptable and will not be tolerated. It is impossible for outdoor crews to respond to every call immediately, so call-outs are being triaged accordingly. Council thanked callers who had shown respect and common courtesy to their staff.

HPS Hot Wheels Show & Shine at Hanwood Public School will not go ahead today. It has been postponed due to flooding.

Griffith residents are encouraged to nominate a person, event or community group for a 2023 Australia Day Award. These awards are to recognise and acknowledge the efforts and achievements of local volunteers, young people, sporting personalities and events held through the year that have enhanced the community. If you think there is someone who deserves an Australia Day Award, highlight that fact and nominate them, whether they work in the limelight or behind the scenes.

Nominations are open in the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year;
  • Young Citizen of the Year (nominee must be 25 years as of January 26, 2023);
  • Environmental Citizen of the Year;

  • Sportsperson of the Year;
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year;
