Artist Di Tarr’s Textile Wonderland “Only Just Begun” will see texture and colour dominate the Griffith Regional Art Gallery.

Awash with colour is the only way to describe what the walls of the Griffith Regional Art Gallery will look like when the latest exhibition opens.

Griffith-based artist, Di Tarr is recognised as one of the Western Riverina’s most prolific and vibrant textile artists.

In her artistic career, Di has dabbled with textiles, painting, ceramics, mosaics and installation.

She was the proprietor of the successful Cottage Gallery, and is renowned for her own arts practice as well as collaborating with fellow artists in the Griffith area; artists such as the late Veronic Collins, Lisa Taliano, and Sue Fordham, to name a few.

Di considers design, colour and form to be essential in her textile practice.

She also employs drawing and her artist’s diaries to aid her in the intricate designs.

Once happy with her preparatory design drawing, Di labours over the rigorous process of constructing the artwork in her home studio.

Regional Gallery Coordinator, Ray Wholohan said process and intuition were essential catalysts for Di’s textile practice.

“I would even go so far as to say that process and intuition are just as relevant as the actual fibres and structure within Di’s artworks,” Ray said.

“Di has always amazed me with the endurance she commits into her arts practice.

“She enthusiastically commits countless hours and it is via this commitment that Di will transform our gallery into a wonder for the senses.”

The Gallery’s Public Program Officer, Melanie Toscan said Di would hold demonstrations and workshops exploring the practices of tufting and crochet throughout the exhibition.

“If any of our patrons are interested in either of these skills, please contact the Gallery,” Melanie said.

The exhibition will open at 6 pm tonight and everyone is welcome to attend.

It will remain on display until Sunday, November 5 and can be viewed during gallery hours, which are 10 am to 5 pm from Wednesday to Friday and 11 am to 2 pm on weekends.
