Griffith will mark the start of Spring Fest with the installation of the Real Juice Company Citrus Sculptures in Banna Avenue, this Sunday, October 13.

Over 800 community volunteers will join together to install each of the sculptures by hand - no easy feat.

Griffith City Council has invited community-minded people to lend a hand.

Council’s Events Coordinator Izabella Apolloni said everyone was welcome to take part in bringing the sculptures to life.

“This year, we have 65 sculptures registered, a mix of four new sculptures and returning favourites such as the grand piano, the life-sized giraffe and the talking robot,” Ms Apolloni said.

Griffith Spring Fest attracts thousands of visitors from all over Australia every year.

The unique Real Juice Company Citrus Sculptures are one of the core drawcards to Griffith Spring Fest.

The sculptures, which are on display for two weeks, are brought to life with over 100,000 oranges and grapefruit, grown across the region and kindly donated by the Real Juice Company.

As the largest citrus-growing region in Australia, the Citrus Sculptures have become an iconic attraction, being the only display of its kind in Australia and attracting over 80,000 attendees over the two-week period.

Construction will kick off at 7:30 am on Sunday, October 13, with frames to be in place by 8:30 am.

All volunteers will need to be inducted before entering the site.

Volunteers are reminded to wear closed in shoes and to bring a bucket to help cart oranges from the bins to the sculptures.

“The magic begins when the oranges and grapefruits are secured to the frames with rubber bands to create these amazing works of art,” Ms Apolloni said.

“It’s such a wonderful morning where the community all come together to create this fantastic display, followed by a sausage sizzle.”

Residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to view the citrus sculptures from Sunday, October 13 to Saturday, October 26.
