Time To Nominate For Australia Day Awards
Australia Day Ambassador for 2022, Viv Kartsounis at Coleambally’s event.
It is time, once again, to nominate local citizens, groups and events for a local Australia Day Award.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Ruth McRae encouraged people to use the opportunity to publicly recognise those in the community who go that extra mile to achieve great things.
Mayor McRae said the community had weathered some tough times of late, with lots of people going above and beyond to support and assist others.
“Let’s use the awards to honour the achievements of these community champions and publicly say thinks for all they do,” Mayor McRae said.
Each town within the Murrumbidgee Council has various award categories, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Sporting Team of the Year, Event/Group of the Year, Environmental Citizen of the Year and Cultural Award.
Visit Council’s website at www.murrumbidgee.nsw.gov.au or phone 1300 676 243 if you know someone deserving of such recognition or if you need more information.
Nomination forms are also available at each of the Council’s offices.
Nominations close on January 6, 2023 for Coleambally and Darlington Point.
Recipients will be announced on Australia Day, with events planned for each town.
Mayor, McRae said that Council had recently applied for funding through the Australia Day Council to host the events.
“Funding has also been received from the Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program to support the fireworks and other activities at the Jerilderie event,” Mayor McRae said.
