Time To Roll Up Your Sleeves And Give Blood

Griffith City Mayor, Doug Curran rolls his sleeve up to donate blood and urges other residents to do the same.
Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran has rolled up his sleeves to give a life-saving blood donation and has urged locals to follow his lead.
More than ten of the Riverina’s local government organisations have joined forces in a blood drive that hopes to save the lives of more than 15,000 Australians.
The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood’s Local Government Blood Drive sees employees, mayors, councillors and community members rally together to donate blood and plasma in donor centres across the country.
Lifeblood hopes to collect more than 150 donations across the Riverina before its three-month drive wraps up on September 30.
Mayor Curran made his donation at the Griffith Mobile Donor Centre last week and is urging residents to book in to make a donation when the mobile van returns to Griffith.
The van will be collecting donations from Tuesday to Thursday, October 3 to 5.
“Last year, Griffith City Council donors contributed more than 20 donations of blood and plasma to the blood drive, saving up to 60 lives,” Mayor Curran said.
“We hope to save even more lives this year.
“It takes all of us and every drop counts.
“With one in three people needing blood in their lifetime, you never know when it might be a family member, a neighbour or someone from your community who needs it.
“All it takes to make a donation is an hour of your time.”
Lifeblood spokesperson, Mitchell Bryce said new blood donors were always needed.
“We always need new donors to expand our donor panel to help as many people as possible,” Mr Bryce said.
“You don’t need to know your blood type, we’ll let you know as a part of donating.
“If you’re well enough to workout, you’re likely well enough to donate and blood donation is needed every 18 seconds.
“Come and see us when we next visit.”
Mr Bryce said whether you work for a local government organisation, volunteer for one or live within a local government area, there were three Australians out there that would benefit from your blood donation.
“Be the lifeblood of your community,” he said.
Visit www.lifeblood.com.au, download the Donate Blood app or call 13 14 95 to book your donation.
