Update On Lake Animal Relocation

Animal enclosures at Lake Wyangan.

Griffith City Council provided an update regarding the relocation of the animals residing at Lake Wyangan.

Following careful consideration and under guidance from the relevant authorities, including the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Primary Industries, Council confirmed that ducks, chickens and the cockatoo have successfully been rehomed.

The goats will be moving to a property equipped with appropriate fencing.

The deer, a prescribed species, requires special licensing for their transportation.

Efforts are underway to ensure their relocation.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Operations, Phil King said all rehoming efforts had been conducted in consultation with

“Council is working in consultation with National Parks and Wildlife Service and Department of Primary Industries to relocate the kangaroo and emus to ensure smooth transition to their new habitats,” Mr King said.

“The peacock has never been confined to display area and will continue to roam the Lake Wyangan foreshore.”

The decision to rehome the animals and enclosures was made during the Extraordinary Meeting held on Tuesday, May 7.

Council has reassured residents that every effort was being made to ensure the wellbeing of all animals involved.
