Variety Bash Rolls Into Town Tuesday
Variety is a children’s charity supporting kids aged 0 to 18 who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.
Griffith will be delighted by its first-ever visit from Variety Bash on Tuesday, August 9.
Two hundred and fifty fancy-dressed Bashers in their 85 novelty vehicles will be at Kalinda School between 7:30 and 8:30 am with a huge surprise for the school’s 35 students.
The Variety Bash is a unique motoring event - a fundraising holiday.
Since its inception in 1985, the Variety Bash has raised more than $230 million to support children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.
This year’s event will see Bashers visit 14 schools across a 10-day, 4453km drive, giving more than $90,000 in grants for technology, educational resources and playground equipment.
It isn’t only the schools and drivers that benefit from this amazing adventure, but the communities to which they travel and spend their tourist dollars.
They will visit 22 towns this year and, collectively, will spend around $80,000 at each overnight stop and a further $15,000 at every lunch stop.
The oldest Basher, Beryl Driver turns 90 next year and will drive her 21st Bash dressed as a mermaid, while the youngest Basher, Ainsley O’Malley, at just 19 years of age embarks on her first Bash in the Lego car.
