Local primary school students have been invited to name the crane working on the new clinical services building at Griffith Base Hospital.

Bob the Builder had Lofty - what should the 44-metre tall crane helping with the $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment?

That is the question that local primary school students have been asked to answer.

The massive crane was installed to support the construction of the new three-storey Clinical Services Building.

The ‘Name the Crane Competition’ is now open to Western Riverina students from Local Government Areas in the catchment of Griffith Base Hospital - Griffith, Lachlan, Bland, Hay, Leeton, Carrathool, Murrumbidgee and Narrandera.

Students have been asked to colour a drawing of the crane and give it a name on the entry form.

Entries must be in by Friday, August 26.

As well as a number of great prizes, the winning name will be displayed on a banner on the tower crane for all the community to see.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District Griffith Base Hospital Interim General manager, Joanne Garlick said the arrival of the tower crane, which will be in use until mid-2023, marks an important milestone in the delivery of the project as construction work picks up pace.

“We encourage children across the Western Riverina to be as creative as they can and give this crane a special name,” Ms Garlick said.

“Our hospitals are such important pieces of community infrastructure, and we’re looking forward to our region’s youngest residents getting involved in this project while it’s being built.”

Some of the student entries will be selected for display in the Griffith Base Hospital.

Information about the competition, including an entry form, can be found on the Redevelopment website http://www.mlhd.health.nsw.gov.au/GBHRedev, along with a fact sheet on the tower crane.
