If you’ve travelled along Mackay Avenue you would have noticed significant progress made on the shared pathway project to seamlessly connect Blumer Avenue and Yoogali.

Tree removal works were undertaken on either side of the Main Water Supply Canal and construction has commenced on the first stage of the path, extending from Macedone Road to the Yoogali traffic lights.

This two-year project has been made possible by a $1.5 million grant through Transport for NSW’s Get NSW Active program.

The program aims to promote active lifestyles and enhance community connectivity through infrastructure development.

The Yoogali Shared Pathway Project includes:

  • The construction of a 2.1km dedicated shared pathway adjacent to Mackay Avenue, providing pedestrians and cyclists with a safe and convenient route for commuting and recreational activities.
  • Installation of clear wayfinding signage strategically placed along the pathway to guide users and ensure ease of navigation throughout the route.
  • Installation of seating along the pathway, offering users the opportunity to pause, relax, and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
  • Construction of a 42m long bridge, which will span the Main Water Supply Canal allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the canal safely and seamlessly since the old Penfolds Bridge was removed five years ago.

Council has gone to tender for suppliers to provide a design and construct solution for the 42m bridge.

This project represents a collaborative effort between government agencies, community stakeholders, and residents, underscoring a shared commitment to fostering healthy, active lifestyles and creating vibrant public spaces.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

As construction progresses, residents are encouraged to stay informed about project updates and any temporary disruptions through Council’s website www.griffith.nsw.gov.au or Facebook.
